Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – After the nightly reed fire at a boat shed in Neubrandenburg, the police are hoping for clues about four young suspects. The quartet is said to have intentionally set the fire on Thursday night and then fled the scene of the fire in the direction of the city ring, as a police spokeswoman said on Friday. The flames caught a reed embankment between two rows of boat sheds that were actually shielded by fences and also ignited plastic pipes lying there. A witness called the emergency services. Thanks to the rapid deployment of the fire brigade, the fire could be extinguished and the flames prevented from spreading to the boat shed.
In the facility, which has around 400 boat sheds in 14 rows, there have already been three fires since April, in which more than 70 sheds and the boats in them were destroyed. The total damage is estimated at 1.4 million euros.
According to the investigations so far, there is no connection between the last reed fire and the boat shed fires in two other rows, which were also deliberately set, said the police spokeswoman. But that could still change. The four wanted are said to be slim to gaunt. A wanted person had a mountain bike with him, another carried a backpack.
