The Renaissance castle in Gadebusch is an architectural gem in the northeast. However, after various changes of ownership and being vacant for a long time, it is in poor condition. But something is happening.
Gadebusch (dpa/mv) – The restoration of the Renaissance castle Gadebusch (Northwest Mecklenburg district) is progressing. The fully renovated south facade was officially handed over on Thursday, as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for rural areas. A state music academy is to be set up in the castle, as is already the case in many other federal states. Choirs and orchestras should be able to spend rehearsal weeks there and network.
The southern facade is considered particularly valuable because of its style-defining terracotta. The castle is recognized as a cultural monument of national importance. The restoration of the facade reportedly cost 650,000 euros, which came from the federal, state, EU and Sparkassenstiftung, among others.
The castle has been empty for years. During the GDR era it was used as a school.
