Ueckermünde (dpa / mv) – After the major fire in a former vehicle hall of a company in Ueckermünde (Western Pomerania-Greifswald), the police are looking for arsonists. The investigations had shown that the fire on Saturday in the Berndshof district was apparently set intentionally, a police spokesman said on Monday. Experienced investigators ruled out a technical cause. The fire at the weekend severely damaged the five-meter-high hall, which consisted of several segments.

According to the police, old tires and rubbish were stored in the hall, which caused great heat and black smoke. Several fire brigades brought the fire under control by Sunday morning and prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings and companies. The location in Berndshof is part of an industrial park on the eastern shore of the Szczecin Lagoon. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating on suspicion of intentional arson, the amount of damage is not yet certain.
