Stralsund (dpa / mv) – After a decline due to the corona pandemic, more couples from abroad are getting married again in the north-east. The cities of Rostock and Stralsund, for example, reported a corresponding development. In Schwerin and Wismar, on the other hand, the demand from foreign people willing to marry is still subdued. According to the city, more than half of the married couples travel to Stralsund from all over Germany. In Wismar, 30 percent of the couples came from outside, in Rostock and the state capital Schwerin it was around 25 percent.
After two challenging Corona years, up to 500 weddings are to take place again this year in the Stralsund registry office. In addition to lovers from all over Germany, couples from Austria and Switzerland also regularly come to say yes in Stralsund. And the demand is high: according to a spokesman for the city, all available dates in the registry office are already fully booked by September.
