Schwerin (dpa/mv) – As part of the second nationwide warning day, the warning systems in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will also be tested on Thursday. At 11:00 a.m., the population should receive a test warning via various channels. An all-clear should be given at 11:45 a.m.
According to the Schwerin Ministry of the Interior, only 60 percent of the population in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can be reached with sirens. After the end of the GDR, the sirens were dismantled in many places, especially in the urban districts. According to the information, there are currently 1,600 in the Northeast.
A mix of different warning devices should ensure that everyone is reached. These include the “MoWaS” modular warning system operated by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, the “Nina” warning app, radio stations and on-site loudspeaker announcements. For the first time this year there will also be “Cell Broadcast”, a direct message to the smartphone.
The state integration officer Jana Michael appealed to the population to inform refugees in their own environment about the upcoming test. “An unexpected siren test can be frightening, especially for people who have come to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from war-torn areas,” she explained.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior declared a first nationwide test alarm two years ago to have failed.
