The Union of small farmers and ranchers (UPA) has applauded Mercadona’s decision, which has approximately 30% of the dairy market share of Spain, to raise the price of milk, as reported by the agrarian organization in a statement.

The chain of supermarket chaired by Juan Roig has announced that they will upload a cents the price of milk in their linear, so as of September it will not sell this product below 0.60 cents, as follows Europe Press.

“Although it is a positive step, it will not save the farms that already come from a precarious situation and that right now, with the brutal rise in the production costs of recent months, they are in a situation of technical bankruptcy”
, they have explained from UPA.

The agrarian organization has indicated that for Spain to definitively lose the many milk farms that agonize, this rise should be followed by the rest of the large commercial surfaces and the dairy industry, but they point out that it has to be conjugated with other advances.

On the other hand, the industry must move the rise announced to the producers of milk.
In this regard, for UPA is “intolerable” that some industries continue to break the Law of the Food Chain, so it asks the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food to ensure its compliance and “applies Hand Hard” to the breaches through
of AICA.

Regarding the distribution, the Battle and Secretary of Livestock of UPA, Roman Santalla, has been optimistic after the Mercadona Decision, which has approximately 30% of the dairy market share of Spain.
“It has a sufficient size to cause the drag from the rest of the distribution in this direction,” he said.

The agrarian organization considers that the Spanish industry must increase the price that pays for farmers and that they must increase according to the increase in production costs they support, so this increase should equate Spain to the rest of Europe, where it is paid
Of average 0,36 cents the liter of milk and 0.39 cents the kilo of industrial products (milk powder and butter).

“We are pressing at all levels so that everyone puts on the batteries, so that the rises do not get along the way and reach the producers and, of course, we continue demanding that those who bring without milk from outside, as a day, leave
To do so by damaging our primary sector, “says Santalla.
