Little Dillon, a 10-year-old boy born in Colorado (USA), saw how a dream trip turned into the worst of his nightmares.
Once the first semester is over, American students have a short vacation called ‘Spring break’. Dillon took advantage of these days to visit the beaches of Cancun with his family.
A priori, a few days of relaxation and adventures in a coastal paradise. However, the idyllic landscape was transformed into operating rooms and hospital rooms in the blink of an eye.
On March 17, the boy was swimming on the beach with his mother when, suddenly, he noticed unbearable pain in his leg while playing in the waves.
One of the lifeguards rushed over to pull Dillon out of the water. The mother and older brother also participated in the rescue.
After a first intervention at the nearest medical center, the surgeons assured that his nerves and tendons were badly affected, as well as two broken bones.
The little boy had a first operation in Mexico, but four days later he traveled on a medicalized plane to the Children’s Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, where he needed three more surgeries, the last one on March 24.
Dillon’s family launched a campaign through the Gofundme website to be able to deal with the bills that the insurance has not covered and also to finance the rehabilitation that will allow him to recover mobility in the affected limb.
Dillon needs $20,000, and according to the campaign’s monitoring, at this time when with 225 donations they have contributed more than $19,900, so the goal is guaranteed.
