The Kings, their daughters and Queen Sofía received a total of 389 institutional gifts in 2022, more than half of them addressed to Felipe VI, including two tennis rackets, a maritime whistle, a candy box, a jug or two aprons that Doña Letizia received.

As a gesture of transparency, the Casa del Rey has published on its website the list of gifts granted to the royal family, a practice that began to be applied in 2015.

Of the total gifts, 215 were addressed to the King; 89 the Queen and 47 both, while Princess Leonor was given four gifts and another ten were also addressed to her sister, the Infanta Sofía.

The list includes Queen Sofía, with eight gifts, while none appears for King Juan Carlos, who is still a member of the royal family, but stopped participating in official activities in June 2019, a month before leaving for reside in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) since August 2023.

Among the presents of Felipe VI, books abound above all, as well as plaques, photographs, cufflinks, sports shirts, prints, commemorative coins or ties.

As more original gifts, there is a candy box, two tennis rackets, a chest with two key rings, a sculpture with volcanic stone from La Palma and even an ONCE coupon.

The King was also honored with a Mapuche loom, a frame with Korean embroidery, a pilgrim’s passport from the Camino de Santiago and a hippopotamus figure, as well as a round rug and three poufs, a jug and a maritime whistle.

The bulk of the Queen’s gifts were also books, around fifty, to which she added brooches, scarves, bracelets, sunglasses, a laptop sleeve and two sets of kitchen aprons from a restaurant in Huesca.

The NATO summit held in Madrid in June last year led Brigitte Macron, wife of the French president, to give her a bag, while the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, gave her a glass vase.

During his visit to Spain, the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, gave Doña Letizia a set of earrings, a necklace, a ring and a bracelet. To these gifts, she added a poncho and a set of lace tablecloths; another of table mats and six vinyl records by the Bilbao singer from La Bien Querida.

Like her father, Princess Leonor received a pilgrim’s credential, as well as a Red Cross vest when she visited this entity in December last year. To this she added two pillboxes, bracelets, pendants and books, gifts shared with the infanta.

In her institutional activity, Queen Sofía had as gifts an artisan flower pot, two vases, a glass boat and a brooch, among others.

The rule established by the House of the King is that the gifts received by members of the royal family pass into the hands of National Heritage.
