The DGT continues advancing in its studies to improve the catalog of signs of the Highway Code. Some of these novelties are put to the test for a while before their final application.
One of the latest changes in terms of signaling on Spanish roads are the signs painted with broken lines on the asphalt itself.
A couple of years ago they took part of a road in Burgos. However, in recent weeks they have also been added to the roads of other Spanish towns such as Alcobendas (Madrid).
In the case of signaling with broken lines, the DGT intends to notify the driver of his entry to a point where he must reduce speed. It approaches a pedestrian crossing with a large confluence, an area close to a school or a nursing home. In short, areas with vulnerable pedestrians.
In these urban areas identified with this painted sign, you must drive at a maximum speed of 30 km/h to also avoid being fined 200 euros.
Another of the novel signs on the road is the painting in the shape of dragon’s teeth or small triangles, which, as in the previous situation, forces you to reduce speed to 30 km/h.
In this case, the driver should slow down before reaching a crosswalk in an urban area.
In this 2023 the DGT also expects the entry into force of a new signal catalog for the second part of the year.
This is the first update in the last 18 years and incorporates a set of signs adapted to the different types of transport that currently coexist on roads and highways.
By means of a Royal Decree it is expected to modify the Traffic Regulations, while the signs will be replaced when the current plates are deteriorated
With this measure, it is intended to reinforce the security of the most vulnerable users and facilitate the visibility and understanding of the messages transmitted by the signals.
By the way, among the novelties of 2023, two signals will also disappear this year: the R-308a and R-308b. Currently, they are used to prohibit parking on odd or even days.
