CHP first reported that the accident accident between a tanker truck and a second vehicle soon after 8 a.m.. A sig-alert was issued at about 8:30% that all lanes of Highway 17 were closed in both directions between Highway 9 and Bear Creek Road.
CHP San Jose afterwards updated the episode, confirming that among the drivers involved had died from their injuries. CHP also said there was no estimated time to reopen the southbound lanes of the highway.
Santa Clara County Fire, Cal Fire SCU and CHP San Jose units all responded to the Collision.
Northbound lanes of Highway 17 reopened at about 9:10 a.m., in accordance with police.
All southbound lanes of State Route 17 remained closed at 11:40 a.m. Saturday — with no goal time for reopening. Traffic was being diverted to Highway 9.
Santa Clara County Fire tweeted 11:15 a.m. that delays were expected in the northbound lanes and they encouraged drivers to exercise caution in the region. Some vehicles were trapped on the roadway, at least temporarily, as a result of congestion and closure, according to the CHP incident log.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and permit emergency vehicles to pass.
