LOGAN TWP. — No injuries were reported after a large fire at a warehouse under construction on Oldmans Creek Road.
The fire was reported shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.
The blaze was started by a cutting torch being used on the roof to cut openings for skylights, according to the county fire marshall’s office. Sparks ignited foam roofing material piled on the roof, officials said.
The fire was declared under control around 8:30 p.m. Units responded from both Gloucester and Salem counties to fight the blaze, county officials said. That support included shuttling water to the scene.
The million-square-foot warehouse is part of LogistiCenter at Logan, an 1,100-acre business park that, when complete, will include 5.5 million square feet of warehouse, distribution and manufacturing space, according to the developer’s website.
Officials with property developer Dermody Properties expressed their appreciation for the rapid response by fire crews.
“We’re very thankful that there were no injuries or damage to neighboring properties,” said Dermody partner Gene Preston. “We did have good safety systems in place and they worked.”
Construction of the warehouse is continuing and the damage will be repaired, Preston said.
