Dormagen (dpa / lnw) – After the killing of a 33-year-old in Dormagen south of Düsseldorf, a young person turned himself in to the investigators. The 17-year-old said he stabbed the 33-year-old in the neck with a knife, but acted in self-defense because he had been threatened by the man, the police said on Tuesday.

The teenager reported to the police with a lawyer and testified there on Tuesday. The version coincides with the autopsy result, after which the man died from a stab in the neck. Both knew each other personally, but neither lived in the apartment building in whose basement the events took place, said a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf.

The investigators kept a low profile on the background to the crime. The statement gave the murder commission cause for further investigations. The 17-year-old was not arrested after the interrogation, but remained at large.

The victim from Euskirchen, around 60 kilometers away, was discovered last week in the basement of the apartment building. The 33-year-old was no stranger to the police, but had appeared several times with drug offenses. A resident had heard noise at night and then discovered the seriously injured man in the basement. He died at the scene of the crime.
