Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) – The authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia have so far received 831 applications for compensation for damage caused by the corona vaccination. The applications were submitted by vaccinated people or their surviving dependents because they suspect that vaccination against the coronavirus has caused damage to health or – as in two cases – death. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the NRW Ministry of Health on Friday on request. The “Westfalen-Blatt” had previously reported accordingly.
Neurological damage in particular was associated with the vaccination by the applicants. Cerebral vein thrombosis, for example, but also strokes, heart attacks and Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare nerve disease. The spokeswoman explained that so far 36 applications have been recognized in North Rhine-Westphalia. 93 were rejected, 675 are still being processed and 27 have been dealt with in some other way.
Twice, surviving relatives linked a death to the vaccination, and in both cases the damage caused by the vaccination was recognized. In seven cases, applicants who received a negative decision filed complaints with the social courts.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, 14,658,578 citizens from NRW had received at least one vaccination by Thursday, which is 82 percent of the population of this federal state, reported the “Westfalen-Blatt”. About 0.006 percent of those vaccinated would have submitted an application for vaccination damage compensation.
