Petershagen (dpa / lnw) – During a search of a warehouse in Petershagen (Minden-Lübbecke district), the police discovered around seven million duty-unpaid and untaxed cigarettes. The officials were actually on duty on suspicion of serious theft of e-bikes and bicycle parts, the public prosecutor’s office and customs said on Monday. Not only the alleged stolen goods were found, but also 37,000 cartons of cigarettes without a tax stamp. A spokeswoman for the Hanover customs investigation office put the value of the goods at around 2.3 million euros.
There was no further information at first. An investigation into smuggling was initiated.
