Mettmann (dpa/lnw) – Three people were injured in the accident involving a prisoner transporter in Haan near Wuppertal on Tuesday. A 39-year-old man who was to be taken from Mülheim an der Ruhr to prison in Wuppertal, the driver and a JVA official were each taken to a hospital in an ambulance to be checked. The police in Mettmann said there was no evidence of an attempted prisoner escape.
“Rather, the police are currently assuming that the driver had unintentionally caused a single-vehicle accident.” The van had gone off the road and crashed into a farm wall. The vehicle was totaled and had to be towed. The prisoner was accompanied on the way to the hospital by two JVA officials who had been called.
