Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – A controversial regulation has been made by the NRW police: Previously, you could only apply to the police from a minimum height of 1.63 meters. Now you can start the training with an additional sports test if you are smaller. The Ministry of the Interior announced this in a report to the state parliament on Tuesday.

The tipping of the basic minimum size goes back to the proposal of a new task force. You should take care of a goal from the black-green coalition agreement: the strengthening of the police by 3000 forces a year.

“We are introducing a new sports-scientific test procedure and are thus giving applicants below the minimum height access to the NRW police force. In this way, we are also continuing to take into account the high physical and health demands placed on police officers on a daily basis,” said Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) of the German Press Agency.
