Mechernich (dpa / lnw) – Criminals blew up an ATM in the anteroom of a bank branch in Mechernich in the Euskirchen district. According to the police, it is still unclear whether they stole money. The lobby of the bank was completely destroyed by the blast, but the building itself was not damaged.
The alleged perpetrators were masked, they fled the scene in a black limousine on Wednesday night, as local residents reported to the police. Investigators suspect three robbers. After the explosion, the fire brigade was initially alerted because a building fire was suspected. It later turned out that the reason for the smoke was the smoke machine of the alarm system in the branch.
