Essen (dpa / lnw) – The Ruhrverband and the health department of the district of Soest again warn of blue-green algae and contact with possibly harmful foam residues in the Möhnesee. Children should not play on the banks of the Möhnetalsperre at the moment, and dogs should be leashed on the paths around the lake. The authorities also pointed out again on Thursday that there is a general ban on bathing for animals in the dam.
The increased occurrence of blue-green algae and other algae is not unusual after long warm spells with lots of sun and high temperatures like this summer. It was “a natural phenomenon that is harmless in terms of water ecology,” it said. Over the next few weeks, due to the cooler temperatures, the algae would die off and decompose on their own.
