Aachen (dpa / lnw) – Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock receives the medal against the animal seriousness of the Aachen Carnival Association (AKV). The Green politician will be honored as a “modern knight in the best sense”, said the AKV on Monday in Aachen. The politician is stable and humorous on the diplomatic stage. The carnival order will be presented on February 4, 2023 at a ceremonial session in Aachen. A recording will be shown on television two days later. The eulogy for Baerbock will be given by her predecessor as a knight, the actress Iris Berben.

The AKV stated that Baerbock had earned respect and trust on an international and national level. She won people’s hearts with sympathy and persuasiveness. “Especially in these difficult times, which scare many people, she convinces with humor and humanity in office, two important tools in the fight for hope and peace,” said AKV President Werner Pfeil.

Since 1950, the Aachen Carnival Association has awarded the medal to public figures who demonstrate humor and humanity in office.

Baerbock (41) is knighted as the eighth woman. At her inauguration in February 2022, Iris Berben complained that so far only a few women have received the order. Previous winners have included Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Schmidt, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), Friedrich Merz (CDU), Gregor Gysi (Left) and the actor Mario Adorf.
