Sankt Augustin (dpa / lnw) – Unknowns broke into the house of a couple in Sankt Augustin near Bonn and left clear traces – a teeth and a shoe print. The burglars pried open the patio door of the house on Thursday and ransacked it, police said on Friday, when the couple was out for a walk. In search of loot, the perpetrators also tried to open a wall safe with a pickaxe from the couple’s shed. Since this did not work, the strangers left the pick in the wall next to the closed safe.

After the residents returned, they alerted the police. They found a denture near the safe that doesn’t belong to the couple. In addition to the teeth, DNA traces and a shoeprint were also discovered. According to initial police findings, wristwatches, jewelery and cash were stolen. Authorities estimate the damage to be in the five-digit range. The police are now looking for witnesses.
