Iserlohn (dpa / lnw) – During a night-time operation in Iserlohn, a suspected mentally disturbed man was shot by the police on Wednesday. The 44-year-old had previously penetrated someone else’s apartment and threatened a 34-year-old woman with a paving stone and a glass bottle, police and the public prosecutor’s office in Hagen said. The man had previously destroyed the doors to the house and apartment. The police first used pepper spray and then fired shots. The 44-year-old rioter was seriously but not life-threateningly injured and operated on in a hospital.
According to the announcement, the Hagen police headquarters has set up an investigative commission to clarify the circumstances. There are indications that the accused is mentally ill. He was placed in a psychiatric hospital in 2014 by a judgment of the Hagen Regional Court. The sentence was later suspended.
