Duisburg (dpa / lnw) – After five days, climate activists ended the occupation of a university building in Duisburg on Friday with a demonstration on the street in front of it. The police had the Duisburg group consisting of about 50 to 60 young people called “EndFossil Occupy!” in consultation with the university management and did not intervene. “From the cast to the streets! Come to the demo to mark the end of the cast at the LX at 3 p.m. today and let’s demonstrate loudly against fossil fuels and for a climate-friendly future,” the group wrote on Twitter.

While the Audimax and some lecture halls were occupied, students and lecturers offered several lectures and information events on the climate crisis, but also on other current topics such as cyber security, migration or anti-Semitism and racism. Everything had remained peaceful.

The UN world climate conference COP27 is currently taking place in Egypt, at which representatives from around 200 countries are dealing with the fight against the climate crisis.
