Essen (dpa / lnw) – A 46-year-old cyclist was hit by a car in Essen, then rolled over and seriously injured. The 46-year-old from Munster first collided with a vehicle on Wednesday when its driver gave him the right of way, the police said on Friday. When the cyclist said he wanted to call the police, the driver reversed, accelerated and rolled over the 46-year-old. The man was dragged several meters and was later taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
When passers-by rushed to the accident, the driver and passenger got out of the car and fled on foot. The witnesses pulled the cyclist out from under the car and provided first aid until an ambulance arrived. Initial police investigations revealed that the accident car had been stolen in Bochum last Sunday. The search for the driver and the passenger has so far been unsuccessful, it said. The police are investigating because of bodily harm and dangerous intervention in road traffic.
