Düren (dpa / lnw) – When climbing onto a freight car, a 14-year-old suffered an electric shock and serious injuries at Düren station. Rescue workers flew the seriously injured to a clinic with a helicopter on Friday, the federal police said on Monday. According to initial findings, the 14-year-old climbed up a side ladder, fell from the roof of the car to the ground next to the car and remained unconscious there. Friends present, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, alerted the emergency services.

The federal police emphasized that traction current would also roll over to people at a distance of 1.50 meters from the cable. Most of the accidents ended fatally or led to serious injuries, the officials warned urgently in their message. They referred to two similar incidents from last summer in Troisdorf, when a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old climbed onto a freight car and were hit by the traction current. According to the police, both children died as a result of the accidents.
