Castrop-Rauxel (dpa / lnw) – After riots at a meeting of the tuning and speeding scene in the Recklinghausen district with an injured person and an incendiary device thrown in the direction of a patrol car, the police have announced increased controls. “Those who attack police officers and accept injuries to others are criminals and we will take action against them with all means at our disposal,” said police chief Friederike Zurhausen on Monday.

The operation on Friday evening on the Autobahn 42 in Castrop-Rauxel showed once again that the controls of the speeding and illegal tuning scene are necessary and that their necessity no longer needs to be discussed. “With a zero-tolerance strategy, we will continue to be on the road intensively in the future.”

According to the police, around 1,000 people with 500 vehicles took part in the meeting. Firecrackers were thrown from the crowd. A 21-year-old was injured in the face. The Molotov cocktail, in turn, missed the police car, according to the report, no one was injured. The police are investigating breaches of the peace, dangerous bodily harm and violation of the weapons law.
