Around seven million Christmas trees are sold in NRW every year. Increasingly, buyers are fetching the trees themselves from the forest or from the cultivation yards.
Rheurdt (dpa/lnw) – A good seven weeks before Christmas Eve, the first Christmas tree for NRW will be symbolically beaten on Thursday at a press event in Rheurdt on the Lower Rhine. The State Horticulture Association also wants to point out the trend that customers are increasingly cutting down their trees themselves in agricultural operations, or at least inviting them in. About a quarter of the trees in NRW are now being marketed in this way directly and regionally without long transport routes, the association said. With around seven million Christmas trees sold each year, North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the largest growing areas in Europe.
