Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – In the dispute over the completeness of the files for the flood investigation committee of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament, the SPD is threatening the constitutional court. In a letter to NRW municipal minister Ina Scharrenbach, the opposition leader gave the CDU politician an ultimatum on Tuesday. By Friday, Scharrenbach should commit to a date in which to answer questions in the committee by February 8 at the latest. She also had to deliver all the missing documents by February 21. Otherwise, proceedings before the Constitutional Court are inevitable.
Last Tuesday, an originally planned special meeting of the committee of inquiry was canceled at short notice after Scharrenbach did not want to appear there. The minister brought up Tuesday’s cabinet meeting and wrote to the committee chairman Sven Wolf (SPD) that her house had already delivered extensive documents. If something is missing, a compilation of corresponding requirements can be checked in the ministry.
The heavy rain and the flood on 14./15. July 2021 was the worst natural disaster in the history of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the flood of the century, 49 people died in NRW alone. Tens of thousands of people in around 180 communities were affected.
