Düsseldorf/Cologne (dpa/lnw) – According to the police, around half a million people celebrated mostly peacefully in the crowded city center of Düsseldorf. “It was more relaxed than usual,” the police reported on Friday. 100 evictions and 30 detentions are little given the number of people. In 2017, for example, the police had to issue 240 expulsions to old women in Düsseldorf.
A physical attack and three acts of resistance were recorded in criminal charges. All police officers remained fit for duty. The police and the city had announced that they would be present with a significantly larger number than usual.
108 so-called wild peepers were caught and now have to expect a fine of almost 180 euros including fees, the city reported. Fights had to be settled eleven times and the police called in.
Several 100,000 people are again expected in Düsseldorf for the Rose Monday procession. The police will then secure the 5.9-kilometer train route with almost 1,000 officers in the state capital. Police Director Dietmar Henning warned that nobody would be able to get to the train route in their own car.
In the event that climate-adhesive activists want to stop the train, the police have release specialists ready. The police confirmed that their solvent, which is used in such cases, is conventional cooking oil.
The Düsseldorf fire brigade also drew a positive balance sheet. At 800, the number of operations was well below the 1100 in 2020. 104 (2020: 318) carnival participants received medical care in the accident assistance centers in the old town. The most common causes were circulatory problems and excessive alcohol consumption.
Only 22 (2020: 50) minors required treatment for excessive alcohol consumption. 86 (2020: 179) Jerks and Möhnen were transported to a hospital for further treatment.
The police in Cologne issued 221 places on Weiberfastnacht and took 40 mostly rioting people into custody. In addition, 21 people were arrested for, among other things, dangerous bodily harm, pickpocketing and various sexual and robbery offenses. From other parts of the country, police stations reported a mostly peaceful start to the street carnival.
