Dortmund (dpa / lnw) – The Junge Union (JU) in North Rhine-Westphalia has nominated its state chairman Johannes Winkel for election as federal chairman. At the 58th NRW Day in Dortmund, the JU delegates unanimously voted in favor of the 30-year-old NRW boss, as a spokesman announced in the evening. The lawyer comes from South Westphalia and has been leading the state association since 2020.

The new national board of the CDU youth organization is to be elected in Fulda in the autumn. The previous chairman Tilmann Kuban will no longer run for reasons of age. Membership in the JU expires on reaching the age of 35. Kuban moved into the Bundestag and had reached the age limit in May.
