Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The number of knife attacks in Düsseldorf’s old town has declined this year. Although the old town, also known as the “longest bar in the world”, was at times as busy as it was before Corona, the number of knife attacks fell to 19 on Friday compared to 22 in the previous year, a police spokesman said dpa request.

“If you consider that the old town had significantly more traffic this year than last year, that’s not a bad value,” said the spokesman. At 19 attacks, the number was as low as in the Corona year 2020, when the old town was temporarily completely deserted due to the lockdown. In the year before the pandemic, i.e. 2019, 29 knife attacks were counted.

A year ago, the old town was declared a no-gun zone at certain times. Since then, 231 weapons that fall under the ban have been seized there.
