Bonn (dpa / lnw) – A sporty young man overestimated his strength on Saturday while swimming in the Rhine in Bonn. As the fire department announced in the evening, the 32-year-old wanted to cool off briefly in the river below the Kennedy Bridge. However, he was unable to counteract the current and suction formation in the Rhine and drifted away. It was life-threatening, according to the fire department in Bonn. Attentive passers-by alerted the fire brigade and rescue service. Several boats moved out, and helpers were able to pull the young man ashore half a kilometer down the Rhine. About 35 rescue workers were involved in the rescue.
