Kamen (dpa / lnw) – The North Rhine-Westphalian left wants to elect a new dual leadership at its party conference on Saturday (from 11 a.m.) in Kamen. The previous state spokesman Nina Eumann and Jules El-Khatib will not be back. A total of around 13 of the 22 members of the state executive want to resign. They had announced their withdrawal because of the ongoing dispute in the left and in a joint statement raised serious allegations against the federal leadership of the party.
There were written applications from two men for the two top offices of the North Rhine-Westphalia Left Party. A woman initially did not apply. However, it can be assumed that a woman will still compete at the party conference, said a party spokeswoman. The election of the new party leadership is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
So far, the businessman and cabaret artist Mehmet Sencan and Sascha H. Wagner have declared their candidacies. Wagner is the parliamentary group manager for the left in the city council of Oberhausen and was the state manager of the North Rhine-Westphalia Left Party for several years. El-Khatib (31) was co-chair of the North Rhine-Westphalia Left for just under a year.
The left only got 2.1 percent in the state elections and again clearly missed entering the state parliament.
