Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The number of students enrolled at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia has decreased. According to the Federal Statistical Office on Wednesday, around 1.8 percent fewer students are enrolled at a NRW university in the current winter semester than in the 2021/2022 winter semester. According to the Federal Office, 751,167 people are currently studying in NRW. In the previous winter semester there were 764,565. According to the State Statistical Office, the number of first-year students has also fallen – albeit only slightly.
According to the Federal Office, the total number of students is also declining nationwide: In the current winter semester, around one percent fewer students are enrolled than in the previous year. The nationwide number of first-year students, on the other hand, increased slightly by 0.4 percent. This means that in the academic year 2022 (summer and winter semester), 474,100 people began studying at a German university for the first time.
