Warendorf (dpa / lnw) – A prisoner in an open prison raced through the Münsterland at high speed under the influence of drugs and was stopped by the police near Warendorf. The 26-year-old was already expected back in the detention center, the police said. He drove with two friends from Münster to Warendorf, harassed other drivers due to his driving style, overtook despite approaching oncoming traffic and ran red lights several times.

Several witnesses alerted the police. The driver also sped away at high speed in front of a patrol car that was chasing him. When he was finally stopped, he gave false personal details and could not produce a driver’s license. When his true identity was discovered, he was sent back to prison. Police are asking witnesses who have footage of the incident to come forward.
