Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) – CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers from Bundesliga promoted FC Schalke 04 calls for more diversity in the football industry. “Football must definitely change and open up in terms of diversity, because it would benefit greatly from it,” she said in an interview with the “spox.com” and “goal.com” portals on Tuesday. “When it comes to patriarchy and the way people work and make decisions together, in many cases football doesn’t exactly correspond to a young, modern company,” stressed Rühl-Hamers. She therefore wishes for a culture change in the industry so that football becomes more attractive as a field of work for women.
Rühl-Hamers took over the board position at the club in October 2020 and was the first woman to be responsible for the finance department of a Bundesliga club. That’s why she never felt like an exception in the industry, and Rühl-Hamers, who played soccer herself in her youth, couldn’t remember any stupid sayings either. “But it could also be that I just didn’t hear them.”
