Duisburg (dpa / lnw) – Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) wants to find out more about research into sustainable energies during a visit to Duisburg this afternoon (2 p.m.). The Chancellor visits the center for fuel cell technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Scholz wants to be shown there, among other things, how sustainable fuel can be produced for aviation. A discussion with students and young academics from the university is also planned.

Then (3:50 p.m.) Scholz visits the volunteer fire department in the Homberg district of Duisburg. “With his visit, the Federal Chancellor wants to encourage everyone who works – even in their free time – for a good and safe coexistence in our country,” said the Federal Government. Violence against emergency services should also be an issue. Most recently, there had been targeted attacks on police and fire brigade forces on New Year’s Eve.

In the evening (6.15 p.m.) Scholz will attend the friendly match of the women’s national soccer team against Sweden in Duisburg.
