Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – At the beginning of the new school year, the number of Ukrainian children and young people in schools in North Rhine-Westphalia increased. There are currently 32,257 students from Ukraine registered in the country. That’s around 7,500 more than before the summer holidays, the online portal nw.de reported in the Bielefeld daily newspaper “Neue Westfälische”, citing the NRW Ministry of Education. Before the holidays, 24,662 Ukrainian children and young people were registered at the schools. According to the ministry, there were around 70,000 newly immigrated children among the school population when school started in NRW. About half come from Ukraine.
