After years of decline in burglaries in North Rhine-Westphalia, there is a clear increase and thus a turnaround.
Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The number of burglaries in North Rhine-Westphalia has risen significantly for the first time after years of decline. In the first ten of twelve months of this year, the police registered 18,840 burglaries and attempted burglaries in apartments.
That was 30 percent more than in the same period last year, according to figures from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). Compared to the half-year figures, where the increase was still 36 percent, the increase weakened somewhat in the second half of the year.
The LKA did not rule out a connection with the omission of many corona measures. Citizens are again out and about outside their homes, which increases the chances of burglars committing crimes. The figures are provisional and may deviate from the later, quality-assured annual statistics.
