Essen / Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) – In the Ruhr area several sirens apparently gave a false alarm on Friday night. As the fire brigade in Essen announced in the morning, several callers reported shortly after midnight. The emergency services themselves did not trigger the alarm, said a spokesman. It was probably a technical fault – this is now being investigated.

According to the information provided by the Essen fire brigade alone, around 30 emergency calls were received because of the incident. There were even more with the police. The districts of Essen-Katernberg and Essen-Stoppenberg were affected.

According to the police, several sirens also triggered false alarms in Gelsenkirchen during the night. Several media reported about it.
