Aachen (dpa / lnw) – There is another confirmed monkeypox case in North Rhine-Westphalia. A spokesman for the city region said on Monday that the disease had been diagnosed in a 28-year-old man from Aachen. The 28-year-old had previously been considered a suspected case. The health department had therefore ordered domestic isolation since Wednesday. According to current knowledge, the infection took place abroad, the authority said. There are no close contacts in the city region.

There have also been cases of monkeypox in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia. The virus usually causes quite mild symptoms such as fever, headache and muscle pain or skin rash, but can also have severe courses. Infected and close contacts are subject to a 21-day quarantine.

“The situation cannot be compared to the corona pandemic. In this respect, there is no risk for the general population,” said Michael Ziemons, head of the health department for the Aachen city region. However, the situation will continue to be closely monitored.
