Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) – Bottom light Arminia Bielefeld wants to reconnect with the middle of the table with a home win on Friday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) against Karlsruher SC in the 2nd Bundesliga. “Everyone is aware of the situation we’re in. We need our third home win on Friday to keep up,” said Arminia coach Daniel Scherning on Wednesday.
The Bielefeld side, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, are ranked 18th in the second division after losing 4-1 at Fortuna Düsseldorf. “We are in a situation that we imagined differently,” admitted Scherning.
The 38-year-old coach only took over the coaching position at Arminia from Uli Forte after the fourth match day and since then has scored eight points in six league games and won both home games. In terms of personnel, Scherning can also fall back on the 33-year-old veteran Bastian Oczipka against KSC, who was still absent in Düsseldorf due to illness.
