Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) – When a tanker collided with a bridge on the Rhine-Herne Canal in Gelsenkirchen, the skipper was slightly injured. The structure of the freighter was completely demolished in the accident on Thursday, according to the fire brigade. The previously unloaded ship was on its way to the industrial port to take on more cargo. There was initially no further information about the course of the accident.
According to the fire brigade, the ship remained manoeuvrable even after the collision and was able to moor at the quay wall of the port. In addition to the fire brigade, forces from the city of Gelsenkirchen were also on duty to assess the damage.
