Bochum (dpa / lnw) – VfL Bochum missed a respectable success at the beginning of the preparation for the next part of the season in the Bundesliga. In the first test match after the World Cup break, coach Thomas Letsch’s team lost 3-1 (2-1) against the Dutch second division club PEC Zwolle on Wednesday. Gerrit Holtmann (8th minute) put Bochum in the lead before Zwolle came back from behind. The match in Bochum took place behind closed doors.
Letsch, who changed ten players in his starting XI after the break, had to do without Cristian Gamboa, among others. The right-back suffered a rib injury in training and is on a break for the time being. Takuma Asano was also missing after his World Cup appearance. The offensive player missed the quarter-finals with the Japanese national team at the World Cup in Qatar on Monday due to the defeat against Croatia and should start training again at VfL at the beginning of next week.
In the next test match, VfL will play second division club Karlsruher SC in Bochum on Saturday (1 p.m.). On December 16th there will be another test match at second division club SC Paderborn.
