The airline Norwegian has decided to cease operating in the next few months six paths of short radius in Madrid and m keep its two operational bases in the Canary islands, the Tenerife South and Gran Canaria , which had decided to close for early November, has reported this Friday the company.

In a statement, the Norwegian explains that he has changed his plans with regard to their bases in the Canary islands, which was scheduled to close in November, because believes that in these moments is better positioned in the market canario to the beginning of the year.

Norwegian will offer 18 routes from Gran Canaria and thirteen from Tenerife , which represents 40% of all offers in Spain.

On the other hand, has decided to abandon some of its routes from Madrid , not to see them commercially viable. That’s why, will suspend six of the 85 routes that will be offered in Spain in the winter season, all of them short-radio from Madrid.

The routes to be suspended are those that join Barajas to Stockholm and Palma de Mallorca, which will cease to operate on 27 October, and with Copenhagen, Reykjavik, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, that will no longer do so on the 8th of January.

Norwegian will offer 79 routes in Spain on the next season of winter , including five from long distance to the united States, in nine airports in the Peninsula, Balearic and Canary islands.

The company already has begun discussions with union representatives to ensure that such a re-evaluation of routes with the minimum possible effect on the crews, with headquarters in Madrid.

Norwegian will operate from Madrid to a limited number of cities and for the winter season 2019-2020 will make daily flights to Oslo and London Gatwick in the short radio and Los Angeles and New York JFK in long range radio .
