One is dead and a man and child are injured Tuesday after a Volusia County crash on U.S. Highway 17, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatality victim was driving with the child northbound on Highway 17 approaching Dickey Lane near Eldridge about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, said FHP spokesman Trooper Steven Montiero said.
Nearby, 29-year-old Rosendo Miranda Escobedo, of Pierson, was headed to the same area heading south on Highway 17, Montiero said.
That’s when the unnamed driver started to veer into the southbound lanes of Highway 17, ultimately striking the front of Escobedo’s truck, Montiero said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Montiero said. The child was taken with critical injuries to Arnold Palmer Hospital for treatment.
Escobedo received serious injuries, and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment, Montiero said.
Montiero said the identities of the deceased victim and the child will be released pending family notification, Montiero said.
All three individuals in the crash were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, Montiero said. Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the collision.
The FHP continues to investigate this crash, Montiero said.
