In the fight against the corona pandemic, the federal government is funding the development of a nasal vaccine for the first time. Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger told the Augsburger Allgemeine that the Zell-Trans project at Munich University Hospital was being supported with almost 1.7 million euros. The vaccine is to be applied to the nasal mucosa by nasal spray, i.e. without a needle.
This means that it can “take effect directly where the virus enters the body,” said the FDP politician. With the mucous membrane vaccine, corona viruses would be fought directly in the nose and throat area and cannot even settle there. Ideally, the preparation could not only protect against symptomatic diseases, but also against an infection.
