Podemos assumes that he will not be able to count on Yolanda Díaz in the most compromised sites of the regional and municipal election campaign. Not even in those squares where the purple party is fighting not to lose the institutional representation it now has, as is the case in the Community of Madrid or the Valencian Community, or where it is fighting to regain it, as is also the case, for example. , in the capitals of these two autonomies.
This is the idea with which the leadership of Podemos works, according to sources from the formation. They believe that the second vice president of the Government will bet on an author campaign, where the choice of places to hold events will not have so much to do with electoral needs as with all the conditions that surround the candidacies. One of the most important is the unity of the leftist forces in those enclaves and, the other, the existence or not of direct competition with parties that support Díaz and that feel challenged by Sumar’s proposal for the general elections of end of this year.
We can finalize its calendar of events and its campaign plan without having any concrete news from Díaz. About a month ago she was presented with a draft of her planning to invite her to participate in whatever she wanted or even to adapt to her preferences. However, the Sumar leader has not yet answered them where she wants to participate or what role she intends to assume in the campaign. And it’s all part of a difference in focus. Díaz has been reiterating for a long time that Sumar is not running in these elections on May 28. While Podemos considers that she should not only campaign for being the leader of the Unidas Podemos space, but also for a practical matter that a good result in May is essential to have it in December. Just like a negative one for space will condition the general ones for the worse.
Sources from the purple party estimate that Díaz will safely campaign for Barcelona, ??because she has announced so, but that she will also get involved in the Basque Country or Galicia, where there are only municipal elections. In La Coruña, she closes her father’s list and one of her main collaborators also participates.
We can also suspect that Díaz will go to Extremadura and Navarra. In both autonomies, the party headed by Ione Belarra has a prominent role in the candidacy, but they are two white sites, that is, there is no conflict there. It should be remembered that the general secretary of Podemos in Navarra, Begoña Alfaro, was one of the territorial leaders who supported the launch of Sumar against the guidelines of the purple dome. The other was the general secretary in Galicia, Borja San Ramón. While the Extremaduran management winked.
Where Podemos does not expect the support of Díaz is in the Community of Madrid and the Valencian Community, the two main focuses of interest in this 28-M, because the game is at stake. Both are highly conflictive sites given the need to survive at the polls and because the lists of Podemos and IU compete against those of Más Madrid and Compromís, already involved in Sumar. In addition, they are in the fight to conquer the City Council of the capital or to maintain the Valencian consistory. So any movement unleashes tensions.
The town of Rivas (Madrid) – the main municipal government headed by the IU together with Zamora – would have been a favorable place for Díaz to land, but the unity candidacy was blown up when Podemos left at the last minute claiming that Más Madrid it refused to agree in other places. The party of Mónica García and IU will go hand in hand while the purple ones have the bases in rebellion, because they were firmly committed to that coalition of three.
Díaz is not expected in regions such as Aragón, the Canary Islands or La Rioja, where Unidas Podemos could suffer a downturn, or in Castilla-La Mancha, where it is not represented.
Purple sources estimate that Díaz will campaign in Andalusia and point to Malaga or Córdoba as favorable destinations. Because there are unity pacts and because of the prominent role that IU has, who leads both lists, with Toni Morillas and Juan Hidalgo.
Podemos will open the campaign in Valencia and close it in Madrid. Belarra will do 15 acts and Irene Montero up to 12 with the slogan Courage to transform. For his part, Alberto Garzón will be safe in the opening, but it is not yet defined who in the closing. Likewise, IU sources indicate that there will be a minimum of eight joint acts with the leadership of Podemos.
