The Courts of Castilla-La Mancha have asked the PP candidate for the regional government, Francisco Núñez, to clarify the use he makes of the official car that he “notoriously” uses on his trips and “for those who have a driver” that , like the vehicle, is “at the expense” of the institution.
The politician from the main opposition group has received a total of 14,560 euros as “locomotion” for going to plenary sessions since the start of the legislature in July 2019, as EL MUNDO announced last week. To questions from this newspaper, Núñez then argued that an “administrative error” had occurred and immediately afterwards formally requested the regional Parliament to “regularize the amounts received.”
In the Castilian-Manchegan Parliament – where the PSOE has an absolute majority – they have responded this Monday that, according to article 11.4 of the Regulations, “the deputies will have the right to compensation for the actual costs of transportation for attending the sessions of the bodies of the Chamber, prior official summons, when they use their public transport or compensation for mileage in the amount determined by the Board”.
“In other words, compensation can only occur when attendance at an official session of the Cortes has generated an expense for the deputy, either for the use of public transport or a private vehicle. Therefore, the deputies who for the In the exercise of their position, they have an official vehicle; they cannot receive, and have never received, mileage allowances that serve to compensate for travel from their home to the Cortes to attend plenary sessions and commissions,” they underline in their letter.
For this reason, they warn that the payment of these allowances in their case “can only be produced with the accreditation of the non-availability of the official car” that the PP candidate “has attached on the specific days of the call and indicating the private car used” . And they add: “For all of the above, I ask you to clarify what is appropriate to be able to continue with the following procedures aimed at regularizing the situation in accordance with the law.”
“We have detected an administrative error in the expenses received for locomotion in the Regional Courts,” Núñez tweeted last Thursday after the call from EL MUNDO. “I have immediately asked the services of the Chamber and the president of the same to correct it. The honesty of a politician must be above all else,” he added.
