The PSOE will maintain for the moment the mayor of Ibiza as a candidate for re-election, Rafael Ruiz, after his imputation in the Puertos case. The councilor is summoned to testify on June 21, less than a month after the regional and municipal elections, about the alleged repeated rigging of public tenders to exploit port businesses in the Balearic Islands during the last two legislatures.

Due to a similar judicial situation, the national leadership of Ferraz has repeatedly requested the resignation of the president of the Consell on the island, Vicent Marí, from the PP. In his case, he will have to go to court on June 2 as being investigated for prevarication, influence peddling and coercion after a complaint by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor.

“Our lists, logically, have to be represented by people who meet the criteria of transparency and honesty and this will be reflected in all the candidacies that the PSOE is presenting for these next elections,” said the spokesperson for the Executive Federal, Pilar Alegría, when asked about the possibility of the mayor of Ibiza being replaced as a candidate. “If there were any issue that conflicted with these principles, you know that we make decisions quickly and forcefully,” she added, without going into further detail.

According to the party’s statutes, the line for its members to be suspended from militancy and not have the option of holding public office is the opening of an oral trial. With the same argument, the mayoress of Móstoles, Noelia Posse, will once again head the list in the municipality despite the reactivation of the ITV case that investigates whether her local government forgave a debt of more than two million euros to the concessionary company of a service vehicle inspection.
