Portugal, a country with one of the highest anticovid vaccination indices in the world, announced on Thursday measures to curb the increase in contagions by Covid-19, including a week of restrictions after the end of the year parties.
“We are seeing a worsening of the health situation,” said Prime Minister António Costa, during a press conference after a Council of Ministers.
“It’s the right time to adopt new measures” because “we enter a high risk phase,” he said.
As of December 1, the Government recommends telecommark, the mask will be mandatory indoors and the sanitary pass will be demanded in restaurants and hotels.
In addition, a negative evidence to Covid will be required to assist cultural or sporting events, visit elderly residences, or go to bars and nightclubs.
As for travel, a negative result will be required for all flights to Portugal destination.
After the end of the year parties, from January 2 to 9, teleworking will become mandatory, holidays in schools will be prolonged and bars and discos should be closed.
Despite having 87% of its totally vaccinated population, Portugal is experiencing a strong increase in Covid-19 infections.
On Thursday, the country registered 3,150 new cases in 24 hours, according to the last report of the health authorities, the highest level in almost four months.
